Casillas and Salgado Visit Petra and Support Youth Football in Jordan

Spanish football legends Iker Casillas and Michel Salgado visited Petra this week, taking in the timeless beauty of the ancient Nabatean city during their stay in Jordan. Their visit is part of a broader initiative to support and develop young football talent across the Kingdom.

Iker Casillas, a former Real Madrid captain and one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, won five La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions League trophies with the club, in addition to leading Spain to a World Cup and two European Championships. Michel Salgado, known for his tenacity as a right-back, spent a decade at Real Madrid, helping the team secure multiple league and Champions League victories.

The duo is in Amman for the fourth edition of the IRIS International Sports Academy’s “Iker Casillas Challenge” — a nationwide scouting program aimed at identifying rising football stars. From over 8,000 participants, 24 finalists will compete on May 13 for a chance to represent Jordan in Spain.

Their presence not only boosts the profile of youth football in Jordan but also shines a global spotlight on the country’s rich cultural heritage and tourism landscape.
