If your phone suddenly started ringing with a loud warning sound today, don’t worry, it wasn’t an emergency. 😅

Jordan has started testing its National Mobile Emergency Alert System, a new warning system designed to send alerts directly to mobile phones during crises, disasters, and emergency situations. The tests are being carried out by the National Centre for Security and Crisis Management (NCSCM) in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, and mobile network operators.

The test alerts are being sent in both Arabic and English and come with a distinctive warning tone to make sure they catch people’s attention. Authorities confirmed that residents should not be alarmed, as these notifications are only part of the system’s trial phase.

The nationwide trials are scheduled to continue until August 2, helping authorities evaluate the system’s readiness and effectiveness in delivering fast warnings during real emergencies.

So, if your phone scared you for a second today… it was just Jordan making sure the emergency alerts are ready when they’re needed. 📱🇯🇴
