Get Ready, Jordan! 🌘 🔥
Tonight, the moon is putting on a show you won’t want to miss! A rare Blood Moon will rise, the longest total lunar eclipse since 2022, turning the moon into a stunning copper-red.

🌍 When to Watch

According to Dr. Ammar Al-Sakji, head of the Jordanian Astronomical Society, the moon begins its journey through Earth’s shadow at 6:28 PM, and rises in its penumbral stage at 6:47 PM. The main event happens between 8:30 PM and 9:52 PM, when the total eclipse is visible across Jordan!

🌘 Eclipse Timeline (Local Time - EEST)

  • 6:28 PM – Penumbral Eclipse Begins
The Moon enters Earth's outer shadow; subtle dimming begins.

  • 6:47 PM – Moonrise
The Moon rises in its penumbral stage; ensure an unobstructed view to the east.

  • 7:27 PM – Partial Eclipse Begins
Earth's shadow starts covering the Moon, initiating the red hue.

  • 8:30 PM – Total Eclipse Begins
The Moon is fully immersed in Earth's umbra, turning a copper-red.

  • 9:11 PM – Maximum Eclipse
The Moon reaches the peak of totality.

  • 9:52 PM – Total Eclipse Ends
The Moon begins to emerge from Earth's shadow.

  • 10:56 PM – Partial Eclipse Ends
    The Moon exits Earth's umbra.

  • 11:55 PM – Penumbral Eclipse Ends
The Moon leaves Earth's outer shadow; the event concludes.

Total Duration: Approximately 5 hours and 8 minutes, with the total eclipse phase lasting 82 minutes.

🔴 Why the Moon Turns Red

During a total lunar eclipse, Earth blocks direct sunlight from reaching the Moon. But some sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere, which filters and bends the light. Shorter wavelengths like blue scatter, while longer red and orange wavelengths reach the Moon, giving it that fiery, copper-red glow.

📸 Tips for Viewing & Photography

  • No special equipment needed: The eclipse is safe to view with the naked eye.

  • For photography: Use a tripod and adjust exposure settings to capture the best images.

  • Best viewing location: Choose an open area with a clear eastern horizon to observe all stages of the eclipse.

📍 Watch it Live

The Jordanian Astronomical Society is inviting everyone to Sports City (Gate 3, near the Martyr’s Monument) starting at 7 PM, with telescopes provided for photos and observation.

Tonight, step outside, look up, and let Jordan’s sky dazzle you. ✨
