Jordan Launches Smart Gates at Queen Alia Airport

Jordan is taking a major step toward smarter, faster travel.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship has officially launched the pilot phase of smart gates at Queen Alia International Airport, making the travel process smoother for Jordanian citizens.
The system developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport, Airport International Group, Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, and security agencies, uses biometric verification based on iris scans and passport data to automate entry and exit procedures.
📍 Where Are the Smart Gates?
5 smart gates are now operational in the arrivals hall
4 gates have been installed in the departures area
These gates are currently available only to Jordanian passport holders and are designed to significantly reduce waiting times while increasing the accuracy of border control.
🛂 How Does It Work?
To use the smart gates, travelers must register once via the Sanad app.
Here’s the step-by-step:
Enable your Digital ID on the Sanad app
Go to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship services section
Select “Smart Gate Access Request”
Submit your request and wait for approval
Once approved, you're good to go and the access stays active for a full year without re-registration.
✅ Who’s Eligible?
To register, you must:
Be Jordanian
Be 16 years or older
Hold a passport valid for more than 6 months
Have a registered iris scan
What’s Next?
This is just the beginning.
The pilot phase will be continuously evaluated, with plans to expand access to more traveler categories in future phases.
For now, Jordanians can enjoy a faster, more seamless airport experience! No more long lines, just scan, verify, and go.
